Why commission models work against you.
Commission-based 3PL brokers typically receive 5–10% of your annual revenue with the recommended 3PL. Three consequences:
— They recommend the 3PL that pays most, not the best one.
— They don't negotiate hard, because they protect their own commission.
— They downplay the weaknesses of “their” providers.
I take not a single cent from 3PLs. Guaranteed. Contractually.
Six years in the industry, personal back-channels.
As the managing director of a DACH 3PL I have six years in the industry behind me. I know the managing directors of the relevant providers personally. That helps in the back-channel — but it does not influence my recommendation.
